As a preparation to this section we advise to read the TIK project description.
TIK wants to create wind clocks?
Yes, but much more. We chose this as a common activity, which could start a network with a different time consciousness. Based on connecting the local and personal wind clocks, we can build applications, make artworks, or even just sleep and eat differently. Within the TIK project this is connected to a wider set of activities which invites artists collaboratively construct a different and subversive aesthetics. That is why we include the open green gardens…
Where did we get the ideas from?
Raymond Roussel wrote about it in 2 of his major works, Locus Solus and Impressions d'Afrique. But that is only a starting point. By making wind a standard for measuring time we try to be sensitive to the non-linearity of nature. There is a lot of wind everywhere on earth. By using our surroundings and connecting it to one another we want to create dynamical fields for creativity and communication.
What do wind clocks have to do with Media Art?
When looking at how we were measuring and expressing time in the past, basically we already reconstruct a history of early technological and ecological art (from the tower of winds in athens, to the observatorium in Jaipur, the stars and the sun, to the pendulum and quartz and atomic devices…). But though we are having a full description for the project for 2 years, there is a lot of space for creative things, and that is why we turn to you!
How do we want to do it? What do we want to do with it?
Ah just start building wind clocks the coming months together, from recyclage designs that everyone can make easily, to scientific anemometers, there are even open source ones around… Let's experiment with it and then we try to connect it to our computers and see what can be done with it there. The idea would be to keep track of all wind clocks over a wind clock server that could also help operations like calculating overlappings, differences, and all the statisitcs and probalistics possible, or just give us the slowest one haha! Finally we are looking forward to working out some creative applications. We are very interested in the 'functional' works too, which means that they can change the way we are planning our lives, and our cultural involvement in society. Maybe we can let the whole project run on wind time one day? And Europa can become wind time zone 0. Whatever, think about it and let's talk here about what you would like to do with it!
Why gardens and bees?
Because OKNO has a rooftop garden and city bees, and we want to do things with that in the project.. and partners ESC and COL-ME are also involved in similar things… guess we don't know yet but let's talk about it soon… any ideas?
Why this brain storm?
Guess we said it already, because we would like you to be part of this project.
